Perth, Western Australia · software engineer & ICT business analyst

I write the spec. Then I ship it.

I'm Vy Nguyen — a Perth software engineer (Master of Computer Science) shipping full-stack data products: FastAPI, React, PostgreSQL, tests on every merge. The twist: I'm also ECBA-certified in business analysis. Most teams need two people for what I do — one to work out what the business needs, one to build it properly. I'm both.

About

I sit where the business meets the build.

My route here runs through three countries: a computer science degree in Ho Chi Minh City, a cybersecurity diploma in Canada, and a Master of Computer Science at Edith Cowan University here in Perth. Along the way I noticed that projects rarely fail in the code — they fail in the gap between what the business meant and what the team heard.

So I made that gap my specialty — from both sides. At Spirited Thinking I turned a client's idea for an AI image-classification system into functional specs and test cases the delivery team built against. At FPT I automated SAP reporting in ABAP after sitting with the people who actually ran the reports. In 2026 I put a credential behind each half: the ECBA from the IIBA on top of my Master of Computer Science — then shipped a portfolio the way real teams ship, with requirements catalogues, sprint backlogs, test suites and CI.

That's the profile: an engineer who writes the requirements, and an analyst who ships the build. Developers get specs they don't have to translate; the business gets software it can trace back to what it actually asked for.

Full-stack, end to end

FastAPI, React/TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Docker, GitHub Actions — the WA Mining app runs the whole stack, with CI proving it on every merge.

Evidence over claims

Every skill on this site traces to an artefact you can open — an API, a test suite, a data dictionary, a backlog.

Requirements-literate

ECBA-certified. I elicit, document and test against requirements — so what ships matches what the business meant.

Three languages

English, Vietnamese and Japanese — useful in stakeholder rooms, invaluable in messy requirement conversations.

Featured work

Projects you can open, not just read about.

Every case study ships with its working parts — the code, the requirements, the pipelines, the backlog. Filter by the kind of work you're hiring for.

Shift Supervisor Sim

The same mining data — spatial, 3D, walkable.

A deliberately small Unity/C# prototype answering "what's the status of my sites?" spatially instead of in charts — now evolving into a simulation-focused showcase, with v2 scoped by a validated requirements discovery before a single scene is built.

Mental Health Treatment Gap

BA discovery and governance, done properly.

A hybrid BA/data case study on Western Australia's mental-health treatment gap: full discovery plus a formal governance pack — business case, project charter, stakeholder and risk registers — then Sprint 1 delivered with two verified national datasets covering all 31 Primary Health Networks.

Person Re-Identification

A PyTorch re-implementation, measured honestly.

PCB (Part-based Convolutional Baseline) for person re-identification, built as a modular training pipeline and evaluated on benchmark datasets — 92.9% Rank-1 and 78.5% mAP on Market1501, with the experimental setup documented so the numbers can be checked.
